Scrap godown gutted in fire in Navi Mumbai; no injuries

A major fire destroyed a scrapyard in a village near Navi Mumbai, officials told PTI news agency on Wednesday.

No one was injured in the incident which occurred around midnight on Tuesday, said Avinash Sawant, cell chief for disaster management, adding that the demolition is located in Pimpri village on Mumbra-Panvel road.

Three fire trucks had the fire under control after almost two hours.

Meanwhile, a fire broke out at a commercial unit in Mumbai’s Kurla district on Tuesday afternoon, which was brought under control in nearly 2 hours.

“There was no report of any injury to anyone,” a firefighter told PTI.

The fire started around 4:15 p.m. at the establishment on Mathuradas Vasanji Road, Coca Cola Compound, Bail Bazar town, an official said.

At least eight fire engines and other firefighting equipment were deployed to tackle the “level-2” blaze, he said.

“The fire was limited to electrical wiring and installations, a refrigerator, wooden materials, steel racks and a few utensils in the kitchen of the ground floor building,” the official said.

The fire was under control around 6 p.m., according to the fire service.
